Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Gregorios

St. Gregorios Of Parumala

St. Gregorios of Parumala, born in 1848 in Kerala, India, exhibited early signs of spirituality and dedicated his life to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. After becoming a priest at a young age, he rose to the position of Metropolitan Gregorios in 1876, contributing significantly to the church’s spiritual and educational progress. Despite facing severe illnesses, he continued his service until his death on November 2, 1902. His tomb at St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Orthodox Valiyapally in Parumala became a pilgrimage site. Recognized for his holiness, he was canonized as a saint on November 2, 1947, and is commemorated annually in the Malankara Orthodox Church, leaving an enduring legacy of inspiration and service.
